A sneak preview of the new range…

Over the coming weeks I will be bringing out a new range of tiles and wallpapers.

The images are built up from paintings I have been working on influenced by mediaeval patterning and 14-15th century Damasks.

New Work in Progress

I’m now working on some ideas that connect my design and artistic practices.

In my Melbourne studio I split the day creating art in the form of painting and designing in the form of the tile and wallpaper work. In previous collections I would at times use a painted image to form the basis of a tile or wallpaper design but apart from that there has been little connection between the two. Now however these two practices have crossed paths and I find myself painting on the surface of my wallpaper, using it like I would a canvas and intervening in the pattern.

I intend to develop these into individual artworks so that they can be pasted on to a wall as they are or framed. Alternatively they could be installed as unique drops within the pattern repeat, as if the painting has been done directly on your walls. Ideally customers would be able to choose from a limited edition of painted wallpaper drops to add to their order of the standard pattern. Interior Designers/Architects would then have the creative freedom to place the artwork in the space.

Taking the painted surface back to the digital from where it originated, I have edited some close-up images of the Gato1 intervention in Photoshop to create new patterns. These can now be used as floor tiles, wall tiles or wallpaper patterns in their own right. Below shows an image combining all these Gato painted patterns.

I’ll be posting more in the next couple of weeks meanwhile I would love to hear from you!

New Wallpapers

Dominic Crinson launches new wallpaper collection: Alchemy

A collection of nine designs; Allure, Sandal, Trebuchet, Murage, Knosp, Luce, Flockard, Onde and Pontage.

With their bold patterns hidden beneath a timeworn surface, the collection tells the story of an age of opulence belonging to the past and references a modern appreciation for history and culture inherent in the spaces we inhabit.

Dominic has reworked medieval patterns and 14-15th centure Damasks in paint and ink and transformed these motifs by digitising and overworking these patterns with a burnished texture. In a pleasing palette of blue, green, aubergine and gold this collection is easy to specify in both residential and commercial settings and will lend the space a sense of authenticity.

Bespoke Tiles and Wallpaper

Did you know that we can produce tiles and wallpapers to your own specs or design something just for you?

Recently we created these stunning tile portraits for the Macchiavelli restaurant in Covent Garden.

We painted three completely original portraits plus we digitally recreated six others from Renaissance originals. The paintings were then produced onto high fired ceramics and installed as table tops and wall coverings throughout the restaurant.

All Dominic Crinson designs are produced under our manufacturing arm Digitile and we can produce any image to any scale over quality tiles and wallpapers.
